Information technology would be very helpful and courteous to review a recipe made EXACTLY the way it is written. It is not beneficial at all to read how yous rated your own recipes using another person's name. Marie, your recipe made as written, is fantabulous. Thank you!

THIS IS AWESOME. Swain and I couldn't believe it! I modified the recipe based on other people's comments. Everyone was saying to add Montreal Steak Seasoning, which I didn't have. So I looked information technology upwards and it's basically comprised of pepper, table salt, and paprica. For the rub i combined 1 Tbsp each of kosher salt, crushed peppercorns (i crushed), and paprika. I also added about 1 tsp. of garlic powder. This I rubbed on the meat and sprayed a petty olive oil over top. To the pot, i added 3 big chopped carrots, half dozen or then pocket-sized ruby potatoes (chopped), an onion, and half a container of small fresh mushrooms. Additionally, I added 2 bay leaves, about a tsp. of worshire sauce, and the onion soup mix along with the water. Didn't accept celery. SUPER SPICE-A-RIFIC!!! Enjoy!

I take cooked a lot of roast in my day and this is the Merely time it has come out perfect! I didn't add any vegetables with information technology except for cutting an onion in half and setting it on summit of the roast for the concluding iii hours of cooking time. I fabricated mashed potatoes and green beans separate, just don't like my potatoes to taste similar anything except potatoes. I also whisked ii teaspoons of cornstarch with 1/2 cup water and added to the au jus that I transfered to a sausepan. I boiled the au jus mixture for nearly five minutes, whisking ofttimes, for a wonderful brown gravy. I was tempted to non cook it equally long equally the recipe calls for, but please just allow it cook and keep check on the liquid level. Roast cooked this fashion merely melts in your rima oris! Thanks for sharing your talent!

why exercise people take a recipe and plow it into some other totally differtn recipe using it as a review? Just create a new recipe.

This was fabulous. I took a few reviewers advice and soaked the roast in ruby vino vinegar over night. I made a rub with pepper, salt, lemon pepper and freshly minced garlic and and then browned the roast on all sides. I was using my mother-in-police force's roaster and it didn't have low, med and high so I fix information technology to near 200 degrees for 8.v hours. I added the onion soup mix, some onion, lots of garlic, carrots, some celery we needed to go rid of and 2 potatoes. We served it with Sky High Yorkshire Pudding (allrecipes.com) which was great! We likewise had garlic mashed potatoes and an easy greenish salad. This was an AT recipe and we'll use it again!
10/02/2006
Great recipe, simply I browned the meat on all sides afterward seasoning the roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning prior to putting it in the irksome cooker. This added great depth of season to the meat and the finished gravy. I omitted the potatoes from the ho-hum cooker, and oven roasted them instead with olive oil, salt/pepper and whole garlic cloves during the last hour of cooking the roast. A crispy contrast to the luscious gravy. My family unit loved this meal!
12/05/2003
Very, very good--the but affair I did unlike is added a couple beefiness burgoo cubes and more h2o so that I could brand lots of gravy. I fifty-fifty chopped up the left over roast put it back in the dull cooker and made a stew with it--information technology was cracking! Give thanks you Marie!
08/12/2011
I followed the recipe exactly and was a scrap disappointed. I had high hopes starting out merely the cease consequence was rather bland. Don't become me wrong, the meat was prissy and tender, the veggies yummy (a piddling mushy, but a good mushy), and at that place was plenty of gravy. However it needed season, also searing the meat with salt and pepper didn't exercise annihilation for it. What I would do adjacent time is sear the meat with Worcestershire, olive oil, and a niggling butter. And so later I put the meat into the crock-pot with veggies on top of the meat. I would deglaze the pan with a mix of either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon and beefiness stock. So I would pour the liquid with pan drippings into the crock-pot. I'k not sure if I would use the onion soup mix or not, I call up that would depend on the users personal preference.
03/thirty/2007
Really enjoyed this, my construction working fiance & his friends practically inhaled this! I did replace the h2o with beer and added a little beefiness boullion... my gars was overjoyed to find a new way to get beer into his system and it gave it an astonishing flavour! In that location were no leftovers at all.
09/xvi/2008
I used this every bit a starting point to learning how to make a groovy roast. The offset time I followed the recipe. The 2nd time I tweaked it later on reading the reviews. NOW, I have created a masterpiece. This is how I practise it:Make sure y'all utilise a Chuck roast outset of all. Then, brownish the meat with salt, pepper, garlic/onion equally desired. Then, place in boring cooker. Deglaze the pan with a little beefiness broth and so add together it and addtional can to slow cooker (total ii cans of beef goop). Pour 1 envelope of dry onion soup mix on top, and 1 tBLsp of Worceshire sauce on top of the meat. Cook on low for 8hrs. After 6 hrs. add quartered red potatoes and carrots to the boring cooker. When done information technology will exist falling autonomously so remove from slow cooker carefully. Brand gravy by using broth and flour/cornstarch/water mixture and heating to but boiling in separate saucepan stirring constantly till desired thickness is acheived. Yum!
04/28/2013
To all the reviewers that said "It was delicious, Only I modified the recipe by adding this or changing this". Once you change anything about an original recipe, you are no longer cooking the recipe but a new recipe that volition gustation nothing like that i.
09/29/2008
For those of you that want a thicker gravy, add flour and onion (for flavor) when you are browning the meat. Browning the meat gives it a nice color and in that location will be no additional steps at the end for a thicker gravy. I find that beefiness broth gives a "tinny" taste. Using chicken goop lets the gustatory modality of the beef shine through. I use chicken goop forth with a prissy dry red wine. Recall that when adding wine, do not add a wine that is too fruity or has been "oaked" (usually older wines). The long cooking time will concentrate any fruit, oak or other flavors that the wine has. Besides when adding vegetables, add together them almost halfway through the cooking time and Not in the beginning. Delicious!
11/10/2008
Fall autonomously TENDER! I've been making this recipe for many years (before this was even added). There's no need to brownish roast first! No need for the salt! THE ONION SOUP MIX HAS ENOUGH SALT IN It ALONE! Listen- Simply throw the roast in the crock, just place carrots effectually it, (Apply the cut up potatoes for mashed, it just goes much meliorate with the tender roast!)cover top of roast with onion soup mix and then TOP WITH Cream OF MUSHROOM SOUP. You'll see information technology'due south just fantabulous!
04/15/2009
In combination of several suggestions in the reviews, this was just the Nigh Delicious AND TENDER roast I have always tasted (it was as well my first time making one)! Here's what I did... I sliced a ii½ lb boneless beefiness chuck pot roast into iv large serving pieces. It didn't accept much fat then no trimming was necessary. In a deep dish, I rubbed all sides with steak seasoning, fresh ground black pepper, coarse kosher salt, and about 2+ tablespoons ready-to-utilise minced garlic then poured near 1+ tablespoon balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce on top turning the meat to coat. While that sat, I sliced upwards a yellow onion so browned the meat on all sides with the onion in extra virgin olive oil. Transferred the meat (including all the juices in the pan) to my tiresome cooker, added 1 cup beef broth, ane+ tablespoon minced garlic, ¼ parcel of onion soup mix (leftover from making dip), fresh ground pepper, garlic salt, oregano, marjoram, thyme, and paprika. Covered and set to low for 6-viii hours. Just about two hours before it was done, I added whole baby carrots, chunks of celery, red onion, and mushrooms. Instead of calculation potatoes, I made mashed potatoes and brown gravy from the juices. The original recipe is a good "base". Simply be creative and use your spices!
03/17/2011
I accept prepared my pot roasts this way quite a few times now, and am finally getting around to reviewing the recipe! Sometimes I add a teaspoon or 2 of Ameliorate than Bouillon beefiness base, a clove or two of minced garlic, or use beefiness broth rather than water, just the bones recipe always remains the same, and always turns out delicious. I had planned on making this today, really. I bought my beef in majority from a local farmer who raises grass-fed cows for the kickoff time ever, and was and then excited to pop my first grass-fed roast into the crock pot this morn! I defrosted information technology, unwrapped it, and and so realized it was actually a 7-bone chuck roast. Not a boneless chuck roast. I had already defrosted it, so I went alee and browned it, then tried to stuff information technology in my crock pot. No such luck. It wasn't going to fit. So, information technology sat in my refrigerator in my covered roasting pan "marinating" in the onion soup mix and water all twenty-four hour period while I did some research on how to cook a 7-bone roast in the oven. Just in case anyone wants to utilise this blazon of cut, or finds themselves in a similar bind, here's what I did: broil covered at 280 for 4 hours, calculation the veggies at the last hour. The effect was autumn-off-the-bone, slice-with-a-fork, melt in your oral fissure tender and admittedly delicious! Crock pot is good, but this method produced a roast equally as good. The adjacent "variation" I'g going to attempt is to make my own onion soup mix from a recipe likewise here on AllRecipes. Tin't wait!
02/15/2011
Swell base of operations recipe! I took the advice of others and browned my meat in olive oil but first I rubbed information technology with Montreal Steak Seasoning on all sides. I used a 1lb bag of carrots and almost five cherry-red potatoes - skins left on, whole onion - sliced, and 2 stalks of celery. I used 2 cups of water and boiled information technology on stove with ii beef boullion cubes. I added the onion soup mix to the humid beefiness broth and poured mixture over meat and veggies in crock pot. I also added about 1/4C worcestershire sauce. I added some garlice pepper & garlic salt to the crock pot. Cooked on low for 9 hours and meat was falling apart! I removed the roast from the crock pot and cutting it upwardly then added corn starch mixed with common cold h2o to the crock pot to thicken upward the juices into a gravy. Everything was perfect!!
06/thirty/2010
adding my 2 cents! I did alter it based on other reviews...2 pkgs of o.due south.m instead of 1, instead of water I used a half cup of beef goop and a half cup cooking vino, and I also threw in a can of cream of mush. soup....I know the point is to get abroad from a soup mix (foam soup that is) but I thought it was the best roast that I have e'er made!!! Oh one more thing...I omited the potatoes and made mashed instead! I know that people sometimes have something to say nigh people rating a recipe after they have added thier own tweeks, but isint it what its kind of near?? getting ideas from others and tweeking them to accommodate our own gustatory modality? I d thousand...Just saying give this a effort! It is awesome! My veggies were perfectly cooked as directed in the recipe!
12/26/2010
MMM.... MMM.... MMM.... yummy! Yeah that sum's information technology up. Finish reading all the reviews and merely attempt information technology... your gonna love it.
09/26/2007
This is an old standby at my house. my mother made this many times while I was growing upwards, and it was one of my favorite meals. My married man now loves this pot roast! I don't e'er brown the roast first, depending on how rushed I am that morning. The last fourth dimension I fabricated this, I peeled and sliced the potatoes the nighttime before and stored them in a ziplock bag with h2o. I placed the raw beefiness, seasonings, and onions in a crockpot liner sealed with a twist tie and popped it in the fridge. The next morning time, I just had to untie the crockpot liner and place it in the pot. I drained the potatoes and opened a bag of peeled baby carrots to add to the pot. Easy and delicious!
10/27/2007
Used a 3.5lb rump roast instead and it worked out amazingly!! The meat just roughshod apart and was total of season. I did modify the recipie equally others suggested. Seasoned the beef with basis pepper & garlic salt. Added a tin of beefiness broth and a few dashes of worcestershire sauce to recipe. I also added mushrooms during last 4 hours of cooking. At the end, took out all the veg and thickend the sauce with flour. Used more potatoes then what recipe called for and omitted the celery. All-time roast I ever made!! Very tastey.
x/xiv/2005
This is a staple in my house...nosotros Love information technology! I use garlic salt and pepper, and Lipton Beefy Onion soup mix. I too use baby carrots and sweetness potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I add a tin of beef broth to ensure in that location is enough liquid to cover the meat. Cooks on Depression for 10-12 hrs, and is just perfect! I make "pot roast burritos" with the leftovers...hubby loves those! :) An Piece of cake, no-hassle, tasty pot roast!!! *notation - close all of your chamber doors when you turn on the crock or else your rooms will aroma like pot roast for days...)
10/28/2007
I have been doing pot roast similar this for years. The bonus is, brand an extra roast at the same time, or utilise leftover roast and broth left in cooker for beefiness and noodles, or chop leftover beefiness and veggies advertizing back to broth, add frozen mixed veggies, chopped cabbage, and a little V8 juice and y'all accept delicious homemade beefiness vegetable soup!!!!!!!!!
01/21/2010
WOW!!! Let me tell you, I accept tried to make pot roast several times already but I gave up considering the meat ended upwardly being dry. I used stewing beef, rump roast, and other cuts. At present I know You MUST USE CHUCK ROAST...that's what makes this recipe super! I took the advice of other reviewers and rubbed the meat with Montreal Seasoning but I did not brown it--just put it in the crockpot. I also used a can of beef broth instead of water. I added vegetables one-half fashion through and used red potatoes because it'southward not as starchy every bit white. My son said the beefiness just melts in your oral fissure! Tasty, delicious and neat comfort food! I've always wanted a adept beefiness roast/stew recipe and now I have it! THANK Y'all, Marie, for sharing and telling us to employ the right cut of beef!

I was feeling a fiddling 50's homey and wanted to feed my family something lumberjack hearty, so pot roast was an easy decision. However, never having made information technology before, I wanted to try this recipe since it promised two important things: moist + juicy. I layered the lesser of the crock pot with babe carrots, halved celery stalks and quartered ruddy potatoes. Then, I combined the onion soup mix with 1 can of beef goop and poured it over all. The 2.5 lb roast was next. I rubbed it with minced fresh garlic, pepper and salt, then gave it a quick sear in olive oil. The roast so joined the veggies in the crockpot, and the remaining olive oil + pan juices were poured over all. Our dinner cooked for 14 hours on depression, which in the end, would have been better at 12 hours. Nevertheless, it was succulent! Our veggies weren't mushy at all, the savory onion taste had thoroughly absorbed into everything, and there wasn't even a need to make gravy. Next time though, I'll make the potatoes separately. I thought they took abroad too much of the flavor, and volition add lots more carrots + celery, and simply a touch of water to end upwards with more juice at the finish. This tasted much better the second day as leftovers, but the meat hasn't lost any of its fall apartiness that my family loves. Would definitely make this once again with a few tweaks.
07/14/2014
My 87 year old Dad prefers hot meals for supper even in the summer. I made this crockpot meal to avoid heating up the house. Because information technology was merely him and me, I only used a two pound chuck roast. Next fourth dimension I'chiliad making a bigger one. This was fabulous! Dad raved almost it and be both wished nosotros had more than leftovers. A very piece of cake but absolutely delicious repast!
02/24/2014
Really loved the roast. It was tender, juicy and cut with a fork. Yet, I made a error. I used both the dry onion soup mix and vegetable broth. I should have used i or the other. Had I added extra salt, information technology would have been way too salty. Next time I make this, and I absolutely WILL arrive again, I'll take care to lookout the salt content. I'd much rather add more to my plate than risk the dish being over salty. And I did add together extra carrots and potatoes. With a three pound chuck roast, I added at least 6 nice size potatoes and 2 pounds of carrots. Information technology was a terrific meal, served with nice hot biscuits.
12/fifteen/2008
Very tasty roast. Quick notes: ane/2 the soup mix, it can arrive mode too salty (add maple syrup to cutting of need exist), sear with steak seasoning, de-glaze with reddish wine and add together to the slow cooker. Worcestershire works well (don't over do it though or you are dorsum to the salty problem). Toss in a bay foliage and you are skillful to get. Have tried this a few times and am constantly tweaking, just follow other suggestions and add together your own flair and you will be laughing all the way to the dinner tabular array.
03/22/2011
This was my first pot roast EVER, and it was so like shooting fish in a barrel! I've made information technology twice, and I've ever used a roast that was less than 3 lbs. I used beef broth instead of water and threw in tons of extra veggies. I also took the advice of some of the other reviews and added Worcestershire sauce and used a Montreal Steak rub on the meat before browning. I've left this roast to cook for upwardly to 10 hours on low, and information technology's turned out keen both times!
12/fourteen/2008
add 1/4 cup red wine, viii oz. mushrooms, iv cloves garlic, and xiv oz. tin beef broth. Thicken gravy with a two oz. brown roux.
10/25/2008
A very adept basic tedious cooker roast. After reading reviews, I fabricated a few changes...I inserted slivered garlic into roast; browned the roast on all sides, then removed to the slow cooker. I browned an boosted onion in the skillet, and then deglazed the pan with 1 loving cup of ruddy wine, instead of calculation water. I added 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, the soup mix, then poured it over the roast. I cooked on high for 4 hours, added the veggies, so cooked another 4 on low. My entire family loved it. Next time, I'll brownish sliced mushrooms to add to the mix!
12/21/2011
Peachy simple and tasty recipe!!
07/thirteen/2010
I just have to say; why would anyone ruin a good tasting dish with that awful onion mix. It's so faux an salty and overpowering.
01/30/2012
This was melt in your oral fissure delicious! I used a 2.five lb chuck and allow it go for nine-10 hours. Information technology was falling apart and was perfect! I, like other reviewers used low sodium beefiness broth. I fabricated upwardly my own rub and used that earlier browning it in the pan (Kosher common salt, fresh ground pepper, red pepper flakes, paprika, and garlic pulverization). I made a gravy from the leavings in the crock pot and that was delicious also (Just the juice/broth with a cornstarch/h2o mixture -- added some salt and pepper). I also used Yukon Gold potatoes. Those or red potatoes are really best for this kind of thing. They hold together better than Russet. I simply ate some leftovers for lunch and they were just as good as last night. Mmmmmmm!
05/05/2013
Excellent recipe. I added several cloves of garlic, two cups red wine instead of ane cup water, spiced 3.3 lb chuck with Montreal spice before browning it, added bay leaves, used the onion mix, doubled potatoes and carrots but did not add them until half way through. I besides ran out of time so I cooked it for 5+ hours on loftier. Everyone loved it!
eleven/27/2013
If its cooked too long the veges will be mushy and the roast will fall apart so much it's nigh like soup! Adding the veges half mode through leaves a tastier pot roast that isn't mush! nifty flavor with the soup packet!
09/17/2006
Yum - what smashing condolement nutrient! I used a smaller roast (2.5 lbs) so it was actually done in 5 hours. Equally the meat rested before carving, I strained the vegetables from the juice and stirred in a slurry of cornstarch on the stovetop. After boiling a couple of minutes, I had a thick delicious gravy to cascade over the meal. I highly recommend serving dinner rolls aslope to sop upward the gravy. Definitely a exercise-over recipe in this house!
10/28/2008
I fabricated this roast yesterday in my new crock pot and wow it was sooo good. I browned a 3.five lb chuck roast on the stove in a little extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper so slow cooked information technology with the rest of the ingredients for 5.5 hours on low and it fell apart. I used red skinned potatoes which I call up adjacent time I will put in an hour afterward everything else. Oh yep, I substituted beef broth for the water. With the left over roast I shredded it and added Sweetness Baby Rays bbq sauce and my husband and I had it on hamburger buns tonight for dinner. Thanks for a great recipe Marie!
01/22/2014
I've been using this recipe for years. I'm a lilliputian surprised by the review that said it turned out tasteless. Yous can add your own touches to suit your taste, as I have from fourth dimension to time but you can't lose with this basic recipe. It has always come out a winner.
11/13/2010
This was my very first time making a pot roast, and it turned out great! I rubbed the chuck roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning and garlic pulverization and browned it in olive oil, as others had suggested. I cooked it on HIGH for 5 hours, adding the veggies in during the last hour (so they didn't plough to mush). Yummyyyy!!!
03/12/2009
Fabled!! Information technology took but 20 minutes to prep! The merely things I changed were (1) browned the meat earlier putting information technology in the crock pot and (2) I used a small bag of baby carrots instead and (3) I seasoned the meat with salt, pepper, & garlic powder earlier cooking. It cooked from 10am to 7:30pm and it was perfect. Just as good as my moms. I too made this recipe another time and instead of using the onion soup mix I used McCormick's Slow Cooker Savory Pot Roast Seasoning..came in a pouch like taco seasoning. Just mix with i loving cup water and cascade over the meat & veggies. Information technology was proficient also!!
12/21/2006
This potroast using the slow cooker is groovy. Earlier I brown the roast, I usually coat it with a thin layer of flour. Information technology helps the browning and as well adds to the gravy.
12/12/2005
Wonderful, simple comfort food. I used a 3.v lb chuck and pressed Montreal seasoning into the beef prior to browning. I added beef stock instead of water, a couple glugs of ruddy and white vino (call up french onion soup), and a can of stewed tomatoes. I omited the potatoes, and served mashed on the side. I made a gravy of a couple cups of the broth. After 10 hours on low this was tender and delicious! Thank y'all!
02/09/2013
This is an absolute FAVORITE pot roast recipe--with a few modifications. The meat is e'er ridiculously tender, total of flavor, and tastes amazing! The changes nosotros made are pretty uncomplicated-- I apply 1 or 2 cans of beef goop instead of the 1c water (depending on the size of roast, 3.5lbs+ ii cans, less than 3lbs 1can) I season the meat with either a montreal steak seasoning or some other seasonings nosotros take handy (garlic salt, onion powder, pepper, maybe some paprika, whatever) so sear in either a small corporeality of balsamic vinegar or olive oil. I like lots of vegetables and then we double the vegetables and add together one-half at the kickoff (mushy vegetables as a issue) simply the other half a few hours earlier the end so they are cooked but not mushy (this is why i add the extra broth since i have lots of extra veggies). I have also used the beefy onion dry soup mix a few times but actually couldn't tell much deviation betwixt normal onion soup mix--so i apply any is on hand.
ten/thirteen/2008
Very tender and flavorful. And so I would not end upward with mushy veggies I put onions on bottom of cooker, added meat(after browning), soup packet, 1 cup water and 1 cup beefiness broth and cooked that on high for two hours and depression for one hour before adding murphy chunks and infant carrots and cooking on low another three hours. Perfectly tender meat which was not falling apart and sliced nicely and the veggies were soft but not mushy. Also makes delicious gravy.
01/27/2010
Easy, piece of cake, easy! And the meat was so skillful. I seasoned the meat with Montreal Steak seasoning and dusted with flour (used a chuck roast). Started it cooking in the AM with just the liquid (I added just a little more), soup mix, celery, onion and some garlic. I added the carrots, potatoes a couple hours before it was done. The meat savage apart and had a nice flavor to it, the veggies were cooked well non mushy and the gravy was and then yummy. Super and easy definitely a keeper!
01/18/2009
I've tried this recipe for the get-go fourth dimension in December and information technology has become one of my favorite. Taking several advices from other Cooks who reviewed this recipe, I completely substitute h2o with beefiness broth, add the vegetables nearly 3/4 the manner after the meat, and instead of table salt and pepper to sense of taste the meat, I use a seasoned salt.
09/12/2006
What a great recipe!! I played with information technology a trivial bit & used other reviewer'south ideas. I rubbed meat tenderizer, garlic pulverisation, course ground pepper & crushed cherry pepper on it earlier I browned it. Used a can of beef broth, package of onion soup mix & beefy onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce, fresh mushrooms, carrots, celery & potatoe. Kept calculation a little bit of salt, pepper & crushed ruby pepper as it cooked. It was fall apart-melt in your mouth tender with a little kick to it! Anybody loved it.
11/19/2003
Swell recipe. For a beefier flavour, I used a loving cup of canned beef goop, instead of the h2o, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. This was a great dinner. I just threw it in the crockpot around ii, and since my roast was virtually half the size called for, it was done around vii. Thanks for the recipe : )
03/xi/2012
Family really liked it. Seasoned chuck roast with salt, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard and a little cayenne. Seared in skillet on all sides. Placed in crock pot for 6 hours. Instead of water used chicken goop and added ii bay leafs. Didn't add onion or celery considering we didn't have any and we didn't miss information technology. Added my potatoes ii hours earlier information technology was done, carrots and fresh green beans i.5 hours before washed and and then scattering of mushrooms 15 min before serving. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Veggies were non mush and had neat flavor. Simply enough left for hubby adjacent twenty-four hours and he didn't heed eating it at all.
03/19/2007
This was sooooo skillful! I did rub the roast with seasonings and a little flour before I browned on both sides. I besides used 1 cup beefiness goop and one/2 loving cup of water. I fabricated a footling gravy out of pan drippings and added at concluding minute to thicken. Will definitely be cooking this i a lot. Thanks.
05/07/2007
I fabricated this recipe tonight and it was the best roast we accept ever had (so my married man put it):) I read the reviews before cooking it and took the advice of some of the cooks. I used beef broth instead of water I added garlic and monteral steak seasoning. My roast was just almost 2 1/two pounds just I permit information technology melt for 11 hours and it was amend than ever earlier. The vegtables were falling autonomously forth with the meat. Thank you for the recipe and all the inputs too.
04/28/2013
I only want to say that yes, you need to use Chuck Roast, and other than any spices you want to add together, all I accept ever done to take a perfect roast is to put the roast in the crockpot WITHOUT browning, and I don't add together vegy's to the pot. This way, you don't need to add any liquid. I add the onion soup mix and maybe some extra onions, but that's it. Very basic. I cook it on loftier for four to five hours. Washed! It only falls apart...love information technology, beloved it, dearest it!
03/22/2010
I browned the roast 1st & then cooked the onions in the same pot before adding to the crockpot. I used beefiness broth instead of the water & increased it to two cups. Absolutely succulent!
03/10/2014
Awesome Marie! I had a six pound chuck roast so I adjusted the recipe for 12 servings. Used red potatoes, skin on, quartered. Everything was delicious. Had meat left over and then take cutting the meat into ane inch cubes. Threw that into the crockpot with a mix of dry onion soup, water and foam of mushroom soup. Will throw all that on top of flat egg noodles this evening. Walla, beef stroganoff! Thanks for sharing your recipe. Melt on!
01/22/2003
This was simple to set and very good. My two teens LOVED it. The gravy is more "au jus" so it can be sopped upwards with bread. For leftovers, I shreaded the meat and it was fifty-fifty better. Instead of just using salt and pepper when I browned the meat, I used a flavour all type of seasoning and the flavor was full and rich. Definately a keeper.
02/xviii/2009
This was really good and I knew it would be. I did add together a cup of cherry-red wine and a can of golden cream of mushroom for thicker gravy merely I know information technology would have been fine without it.
04/28/2011
delicious! i browned the meat equally stated and that made all the difference in the manner information technology came out (as opposed to how i used to slow cook information technology earlier). thanks for the recipe
09/19/2000
This was the first time I have ever made a roast in the wearisome cooker, and it was oh-so-easy! And, it was very adept! I used babe carrots and new potatoes (quartered)and it was gear up to go in just a few minutes! My four year former daughter loved information technology!
11/20/2013
This is the recipe from the Lipton soup mix box. Has been at that place forever! I don't like the way the veggies are overcooked in this recipe. It is good but at that place are better. Good for novice cooks.
02/13/2013
I've used this recipe many, many times, but have made several changes to it. I like to glaze a couple of sides of the roast with Grillmates steak seasoning (very peppery and has common salt), and I also splash some worcestershire sauce on information technology the night earlier and stick it in the fridge. The adjacent morning, I sear the sides on the pan (with a trivial olive oil). I also use beef broth (or chicken goop, whichever I happen to have at domicile) instead of h2o. I also utilize small red potatoes and put them in whole. I cut all of my veggies in big chunks (onion is quartered, carrots in large chunks, etc.) For herbs/seasoning, I also add some thyme and rosemary and 4-half-dozen cloves of minced garlic. Delicious!

Followed the recipe as shown....simply like my mom used to make it :)

I made this for dinner this by Sunday. Information technology was extremely easy and the meat was melt in your mouth moist. I felt however that information technology lacked some flavour. I think next fourth dimension I will add some worcestershire sauce to it. I will definitely brand this once again though, cheers.

This was wonderful pot roast! I used the Montreal Steak Seasoning and browned the meat ahead of time, and boy was that tasty! It added so much flavour. And I think browning the meat ahead of fourth dimension seals in some of the wet so that the roast is extra moist. I also used a can of beef broth instead of water. Yum!

I impressed my parents with this one. We all loved it - very moist and tender - not overcooked. Information technology was skillful for leftovers as well. I accept a smaller, older crock pot, then I had to cut the roast (about 4 lbs.) into ii chunks, and so pile the veggies around it. Afterwards the kickoff meal, I cutting up more veggies and slow-cooked them in the leftover juice so that I would have enough to become with the residual of the roast - excellent leftovers. Also, once you refrigerate, the next day you tin can skim off the congealed fat to reduce fat content. I liked the recipe as an easy and tasty way to become some nutritional veggies and fiber - carrots, onions and celery.

Just fabulous!

Piece of cake and extremely delicious! I added extra carrots and potatoes as I have a large wearisome cooker. My husband loved this dish.
09/05/2013
Followed the recipe with i exception. Before browning roast, I tied it. Information technology cooked great and after removing cording, sliced and plattered the meat and vegs. Served with buttered noodles for those who wanted them and as well had mixed green Salad.

This was incredibly delicious. I used a 3-pound chuck roast (which was fatter than I expected) and browned it on all sides. After I put the roast in the tedious cooker, I looked at the $.25 in the pan and decided to deglaze it with a little (maybe 3-4 Tbsp) balsamic vinegar. Next I poked iv peeled and smashed garlic cloves in the roast and poured the thickened balsamic on it. And then I put a large sliced white onion on elevation and sprinkled the onion soup mix over that. Finally, I poured the water over everything and put information technology in the refrigerator. Around midnight, I took it out of the fridge and put information technology in the cooker on depression. When I woke up at seven, I added 3/4 pound of infant carrots and another large white onion (sliced). Afterwards nearly another 60 minutes, I noticed the roast was falling apart, then I took it out and covered it with foil while everything else cooked another 2 hours. Then I drained off the liquid and let information technology separate (because my roast was so fatty). I skimmed off as much of the fat and put the roast, carrots, and onions back in the pot, followed by the skimmed liquid and left it on warm until it was prepare to serve. The roast was fork tender and total of flavour. I served information technology with rice, carrots, and onions. I look forrard to eating the leftovers. I will make this again! Thanks for sharing, Marie.

This was excellent.First pot roast I've ever fabricated, chose a marbley chuck roast equally directed. Replaced the h2o with the beef broth. I as well added garlic and a piffling actress onion soup for fear it wouldn't accept enough flavour, but I didn't need all that, the original recipe would have been totally fine. I retrieve next time i'll merely make it equally is with diluted beef broth. I live lone and so making big things like this, I need to exist sure I can eat it. And I did! Vegetables were perfectly done and yummy likewise!

Extremely EASY and delicious I followed Lyrica42 recommendations and served up with some fresh sourdough bread - perfect condolement nutrient
xi/16/2013
I've made this recipe a dozen times or more than. It's perfect every bit is. No need to change anything!
03/31/2014
I made this and used beefiness goop instead of the water and no celery because I didn't accept any. It was he best roast I accept always made. My married man agreed and the kids ate information technology upwards and had 2nd and 3rds. "Mom, this is the best dinner ever."
03/18/2014
I cooked the pot roast without the potatoes and carrots. I did put in the onion and took a few garlic cloves and put them in the roast. It is the all-time I accept ever made!
06/xv/2011
Delicious! I rubbed the roast with bounding main salt, croaky pepper, marjoram, thyme and paprika, then dusted with flour before browning. Likewise, used about twice the amount of potatoes and carrots and added a footling more than h2o and 3 cloves of garlic. Merely needed to add a lilliputian table salt. Might utilize a vegetable stock base next fourth dimension.

I fabricated this for dinner tonight and got rave reviews from my husband and step son! The roast was tender and moist. I didn't apply the onion soup, just used beef bouillon dissolved in water instead. Browned in skillet w/a tad salary grease black pepper, ocean salt, onion powder before putting in wearisome cooker. Used the aluminum foil assurance to support the roast in cooker. I used the juice from the roast to make gravy; cooked potatoes, carrots and celery stalks at the end of the cooking time for the roast. Yummmmmmm Yummmmmmm!
03/14/2010
YUM! I used this recipe for my commencement pot roast ever, and it was delish!! I added the potatoes halfway through cooking, per other reviewers' advice. Also used one can of beef goop and a picayune garlic; otherwise, I made the recipe as is. I cooked information technology on high for about six hours and information technology was perfect! And 1 tip* I used the crockpot liner bags that yous purchase in the grocery store near the ziplock baggies, and it fabricated clean up So much easier! Didn't change the taste or compromise the flavor a bit! I will be making this recipe for years to come.
10/17/2013
This recipe was very easy to follow and it turned out great. I didn't take viii hours and then I put it on high for 6 hours and information technology was delish. I'grand sure it would have been very good at eight to ten on the low setting. I didn't chop up the carrots or onion. I simply made big huge chunks because I was afraid they would be mushy if I cutting them to pocket-sized they turned out amazing. I put whole red potatoes on the acme of all of information technology and they were only wonderful equally well. I will CERTAINLY do this recipe again. It'due south like shooting fish in a barrel to make and has but a few basic ingredients which was a big plus. I don't like having to go to the grocery to buy some expensive condiment or spice that I will never use over again. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
01/xx/2015
So tasty! Turns out perfect every fourth dimension! I similar using red potatoes instead of russet, and those don't become overcooked. Or sometimes I just get out the potatoes out and brand mashed potatoes instead. Just use one-half a package of the mix. One is likewise much! I utilize beef broth instead of h2o if I have information technology, I similar it much more that way. Don't utilise broth and a whole packet- it will be way too salty!
02/16/2014
Succulent!
02/07/2009
No need to brown the roast (I have done it both means). I used my medium size crock pot w/ a iii# boneless Chuck Roast, rubbed it with (Scarlet Robin Seasoning &) sprinkled westward/ Table salt & Pepper. Put 1/2 packet of Onion Soup Mix on it, poured 1 cup hot water, added 3 lg potatoes & as many baby carrots I could still allowing 1-2" clearance from top of crock as it is IMPORTANT you lot don't overfill your crock pot for proper cooking. (Makers' suggest on filling it 75% full.) I cooked on HIGH for v.5 hours and so turned it downwardly to Low for the last ii hours.... ~Wonderful Smell ....TO DIE FOR!! 2d-TIME-NOTES: Used BEEF BROTH instead of water (nigh ii cups), did non brown roast, used bag of fingerling potatoes & cooked on Low for 10 i/2 Hours. YUMMY!
04/22/2014
Followed the recipe but did use Montreal Steak Seasoning & added two cloves of garlic. Information technology was very good but seemed to exist missing something to give it a petty more than season. Volition use this over again. Thanks!
12/17/2008
My first pot roast! It came out a niggling tough i cooked on high for 4hrs, my mom-in-constabulary says if on high i should have cooked for 3hrs simply overall the gustatory modality was very good, everyone ate it all. thank you for a great recipe, def volition make again.
09/24/2013
This is a bang-up recipe! With a few modifications of course. I like to braise my roast in some olive oil. I had a iii.5lb roast. I added two cups of beefiness broth to the mix (I beloved the "Better than Bouillon" brand, merely I recollect the secret to the liquid is that I also like to add a can of beer to it. Any beer in the refrigerator, doesn't really matter. I personally merely used a Bud Lite. Every bit per other reviewers, I added my potatoes, onion and carrots in at the half way point and saw no use cut upwardly the carrots as they're small enough and easily cook in the time that's left.
07/thirteen/2010
This is pretty much the manner I have always made pot roast. Only divergence is that I don't always brownish information technology starting time. But I do put salt, pepper and flour all over the roast. This way, it makes it'south ain gravy and is never lumpy. I use different seasonings - depending what I have on hand. I accept used steak seasoning, seasoned salt, garlic common salt, etc. They all work fine and are a matter of taste. I use beef goop and bulky onion soup. For veggies I use potatoes (for average size potatoes, I quarter them, for large potatoes I cutting them into six or seven pieces), two average size onions quartered and carrots (baby or regular). I use lots of potatoes because DH and sons dearest them this way. This along with some rolls is ane of our favorite dinners. I cook on depression in the crock pot for virtually 10 hours while I am at work. The house smells sooooo gooooood when we come up home!
09/29/2010
I gave this 4 stars because I fabricated some changes. First, I only used a 2 lb roast. I followed the advice of others and rubbed Montreal Steak Seasoning on it and browned it in a cast iron skillet. I also substituted 1 cup beef broth for the water. When I came dwelling house from work, the house smelled incredible! Broiled some crescent rolls and DH and were in heaven!

I've fabricated this pot roast 2 Sundays in a row. And I will probably continue making it every Sunday. And so, SO, GOOD. I used a boneless chuck roast. Vegetables and meat done to perfection. And then like shooting fish in a barrel, and tasted so great. Thank you for a great recipe that I will employ over again and again.
05/19/2011
Tasty and tender. I seasoned with lots of Montreal Seasoning only I didn't think it was necessary to use beef broth as some suggested, so I used 3/four c. h2o and ane/4 c. red wine, and I volition do the aforementioned adjacent time. I left the peel on my pocket-size red whole potatoes and cut the carrots into largish chunks, and they were but correct afterward cooking all 24-hour interval on low. I did exit out the celery and side by side time will add more carrots. Thank you!
10/24/2013
I didn't get to effort this but my boyfriend RAVED nigh it. He said it was the best meal I have made- which saddens me slightly since information technology was so piece of cake to prepare. I took a few other comment's suggestions and added some Worchestire- and likewise browned the meat with garlic pulverization, McCormick steak seasoning, table salt and pepper. And so threw everything into the crockpot and let it cook for the viii hours. Overall rating (from the boyfriend)= Amazing. Definitely a keeper.
02/19/2014
acceptable.
ten/18/2011
So yummy! The meat falls apart just like a perfec pot roast should. I followed other'southward advice and used Montreal Steak seasoning and am glad I did. I too subbed beef broth for the water. There is enough juice in the pot afterwards cooking to brand gravy. Great recipe!
xi/17/2010
Mine turned out keen. The only reason I give four stars is because I changed it slightly. Instead of h2o I used beefiness goop, and I added a larger variety of veggies. I took a niggling of the broth when information technology was washed and mixed in a lilliputian flour to make gravy. The roast was autumn apart perfect and the gravy was awesome. I volition make information technology once more with those pocket-size changes.
10/02/2011
Instead of the onion soup mix, I added 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce to the goop and inserted 1 bay leaf into the roast, discarding the bay leaf before serving the roast. IMHO, the roast was even better- without those pesky onion bits from the soup mix in the goop.
08/27/2013
Volition endeavor this recipe this week! If the meat is bland, try using a knife to make holes all over the roast and stuff with a whole clove of garlic in each along with table salt, pepper and whatsoever other dry seasoning you lot may like. trust me the garlic gives great flavor!
10/17/2010
I loved the flavor of this pot roast! I followed the recipe completely other than using beef goop instead of water to be able to make delicious gravy at the end. I felt that 8 hours was the perfect time for this. Others take said to look to add the vegtables until half style through, only I don't think they would have been as good if I would have washed that. I used whole infant carrots, onions cutting into fourths, and largely cubed russet potatoes. I thought they were the perfect texture with having simmered the entire fourth dimension. Simply a very little crunch but soft enough to melt in your mouth. I'd recommend adding them at the beginning if you like your veggies soft!
01/18/2008
FABULOUS!!! I doctored this up a bit by adding iv cloves of chopped garlic to the slow cooker after the meat, veggies and soup mix were in. I also used salt, pepper and flavour-all on the meat when I browned it in the skillet. I have a 5 quart slow cooker and used 5 pounds of chuck roast, 6 small/medium ruddy potatoes, a small purse of baby carrots, 3 celery stalks, about a 1/2 cup chopped onions and the garlic, . My slow cooker was FULL! I think the onion soup mix is what makes this sooooo adept! I let is cook on depression for 8 hours, just opened the tiresome cooker lid twice - and it came out FABULOUS!!! My family LOVED information technology and my hubby even said this is meliorate than any he'due south had in a restaurant before. This is my new favorite slow cooker recipe and will be made many more than times!! :)
09/19/2008
THE All-time Always!!!!!! The meat was so ridiculously tender!!! It literally melted in your oral cavity! I did marinate my meat overnight(in italian dressing) and I also took the advice of previous reviewers with a few other changes: dissolve 2 beef boullion cubes in the water before adding it in (you could utilize 1 tin can of beefiness broth for the same upshot), and add together three cloves of garlic, chopped as well. I also added one tsp cayenne pepper to give it some kick. When it was done, I could barely continue my boyfriend out of the pot long enough to really serve it upwardly! Oh I can't say enough nigh this roast- information technology was THAT good! I will be reusing this recipe many many more times. Thank you sooo much Marie!
11/02/2008
Exactly what y'all retrieve of when yous remember of pot roast. Just perfect! I lightly floured mine and and so browned information technology - this way it made its own gravy; no need to thicken the juices.
05/23/2010
Didn't need ANY liquid in my tiresome cooker for perfection. Cooked nine hours and had plenty of liquid when washed. Don't add carrots or potatoes until last hour or they'll become mushy. I like turnips done this manner.
01/13/2010
This was fantastic! Based on the other reviews, dipped the meat in a flour and season mixture earlier browning. One thing I like about the recipe is that it is a everything merely the kitchen sink every bit far as seasoning goes. Whatever I had, I threw in to the flour mixture. I assembled everything the night before and threw it in the fridge. I cooked on loftier for an hour as presently as I got upward in the morning and so switched it to low and cooked from eight-half-dozen. The meat and vegetables were out of this globe. The potatoes were soft but not mushy but side by side time, I might omit them and serve over mashed potatoes. Will definitely make over again.
